Review basis: Researched on 5 October 2026 using Finance Now’s official personal-loan page, rates and fees, credit criteria, FAQs and contract and insurance documents, including the May 2026 terms. This review assesses its personal loan for quick-cash needs. Suitability and cost comparisons are editorial assessments; no application was submitted or payout time independently tested. The advertised promotional minimum applies to applications received through 14 January 2027. Your approved amount, rate, security requirements and funding time depend on assessment. All amounts are in New Zealand dollars.

Finance Now quick loans: personal-loan summary

  • Provider and purpose: Finance Now Limited is a New Zealand direct lender in the SBS Bank group. Its personal loan can cover unexpected expenses, purchases or debt consolidation.
  • Amounts and terms: NZ$1,000–NZ$60,000 over 6–60 months, subject to approval. Secured and unsecured options are available; larger loans generally require security.
  • Interest and APR: Advertised fixed annual interest rates range from 8.25%–29.95% p.a. during the current promotion. Your rate is personalised. A separate fee-inclusive APR was not identified in the reviewed pricing.
  • Fees and insurance: NZ$215 establishment fee and NZ$2.50 monthly service fee, plus applicable additional charges. Payment Protection Insurance is optional; assets securing a loan must be insured.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18, New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, and currently living in New Zealand. Identity, income, affordability and credit checks apply.
  • Application and speed: Apply through Finance Now’s website or contact its lending team. Funding may arrive within 24 hours after approval and receipt of the required documents; same-day access is conditional.
  • Best fit and main limitation: Worth comparing for a defined expense you can repay over several months. The establishment fee weighs heavily on smaller loans, and a rate near the upper end can make borrowing expensive.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on Finance Now

With Finance Now, I would pay particular attention to the cost of repaying early. If your cash need is temporary, ask for a written illustration of everything you would pay by your expected settlement date, including upfront fees and any early repayment charge. Compare that with the same figure from other lenders. A lower annual interest rate can still produce a higher cost over a short borrowing period. At LoansFinder, we focus on making these trade-offs clearer, so you can weigh the convenience of quick funding against its actual cost.

Who qualifies for a Finance Now quick loan?

You must be 18 or older, a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and currently living in New Zealand. Prepare valid photo identification, income and employment details, evidence of your address, and information about existing debts and living expenses. Finance Now may request bank statements or further documents to verify your application.

Its published credit criteria consider repayment capacity, income stability, security and credit history. They call for good credit experience or a guarantor with that track record, and no recent finance defaults. Meeting the initial requirements does not establish affordability or approval.

For secured borrowing, the lender also assesses the asset offered. A lower interest rate needs to be weighed against insurance costs and the risk of losing that asset if you default.

When Finance Now may suit your situation

Our assessment is that this loan is a stronger fit for a specific, necessary expense than for repeatedly covering a monthly shortfall. It offers time to spread repayments, but extending the term usually increases total interest.

For a small bill, first ask whether the supplier offers a payment arrangement. Otherwise, compare personal-loan costs using the same amount and repayment period. If you are replacing existing debts, assess debt consolidation against the remaining cost of those debts, including settlement charges.

If repayments already exceed what you can afford, consider debt-management support before adding another loan.

How to apply and receive your money

The application process

  1. Start from Finance Now’s official personal-loan page and follow its application link. For application assistance, the page lists 0800 50 60 90 and loans@financenow.co.nz.
  2. Provide your financial information and requested documents. Finance Now verifies the information, assesses affordability and checks your credit history.
  3. If approved, review the personalised disclosure statement, repayment schedule, security requirements and any insurance before signing.
  4. Return the required documents and satisfy outstanding conditions so the lender can arrange payment.

Finance Now’s privacy policy explains its collection and sharing of information with credit-reporting agencies, verification providers and other relevant parties. A LoansFinder enquiry is a separate referral route and should not be treated as a completed Finance Now application.

Can Finance Now provide same-day cash?

The lender says funds could arrive the same day once approval and signing are complete, while its FAQs describe access within 24 hours after approval and receipt of required documents. These are conditional timeframes. Confirm the expected payout date if a bill is due today.

Questions to ask before accepting the loan

  • How much cash will I receive, and how much will I owe after financed fees and insurance?
  • What is my fixed rate, regular repayment and total amount repayable?
  • Does this offer require security, asset insurance or a guarantor, and what obligations follow?
  • What would it cost to settle early, and how are extra payments applied?
  • Which conditions remain outstanding, and when should the money reach my account?

Finance Now advantages and limitations

Advantages

  • Secured and unsecured options allow applicants to compare the cost and obligations of each.
  • Weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments can align repayments with income.
  • Extra payments are accepted, although early settlement may attract charges.

Limitations

  • The establishment fee adds a substantial cost to smaller borrowing amounts.
  • The advertised minimum is only the bottom of a broad personalised rate range.
  • Recent finance defaults reduce approval prospects, and urgent funding still depends on completing checks.
  • Providing security adds asset risk and insurance obligations.

Finance Now interest rates, fees and total cost

Interest rates and the promotional period

The current pricing page lists 8.25%–29.95% p.a. for secured and unsecured personal loans through 14 January 2027. It schedules the minimum to rise to 8.45% for applications received after that date. Some general product text still displays 8.45%; the dated promotional terms explain the lower current minimum.

Your rate depends on your credit profile, borrowing amount and any security. The sample disclosure statement specifies a rate fixed for the loan term, with interest calculated daily and charged monthly.

Published charges

  • Establishment: NZ$215.
  • Account service: NZ$2.50 per month.
  • Security registration: NZ$7.90 Personal Property Securities Register fee, where applicable.
  • Loan variation: NZ$95.
  • Other administration: NZ$3.50 for third-party correspondence and statement requests; NZ$10 administration charge for third-party costs; an overpayment refund fee of the lesser of NZ$10 or the account balance.
  • Missed payments: NZ$5 dishonour fee and NZ$10 for each default-related written correspondence.

The default rate is the higher of your annual interest rate plus five percentage points or 28% p.a., applied to overdue amounts under the terms. Recovery costs may also arise. Early settlement can involve an early termination charge and administration costs; request a settlement quote.

For a NZ$1,000 loan over six months, establishment and monthly service fees alone total NZ$230 before interest. This is the main reason to compare total dollar cost carefully when borrowing a small amount.

Insurance costs and exclusions

Payment Protection Insurance is optional. Separately, the loan terms require insurance over assets used as security, including cover against fire, accident and theft. Premiums added to the loan also attract interest.

The linked PPI booklet, version August 2022, contains exclusions for specified pre-existing medical conditions. Redundancy cover excludes self-employment, voluntary redundancy and redundancy within the first 30 days, among other restrictions. Temporary-disablement benefits have a 14-day stand-down period. Check the policy offered to you, its premium and eligibility conditions before adding it.

Illustration: NZ$5,000 over two years

Independent calculation, not a lender quotation: Assume NZ$5,000 paid to you, the NZ$215 establishment fee added to the balance, a fixed 15.95% p.a. rate and 24 monthly repayments, plus the NZ$2.50 monthly service fee. Payments would be approximately NZ$258 per month, with about NZ$6,185 repaid in total. The borrowing cost would be approximately NZ$1,185, comprising interest and fees.

This illustration uses equal monthly periods and the annual rate divided by 12. It excludes insurance, security-registration fees, default charges, variations and early settlement. Finance Now calculates interest daily, so its quotation may differ. Check whether the repayment leaves enough for essentials and existing commitments.

Is Finance Now worth considering for a quick loan?

Finance Now is worth comparing when you have a defined expense, sufficient repayment capacity and time to complete its checks. Its strongest feature is the choice of secured or unsecured borrowing with flexible payment frequency. Its main limitation for quick-cash needs is the cost of fees on smaller loans.

Compare the total repayment on your personalised offer with other quick-loan options for the same amount and term. A faster application or lower advertised starting rate does not establish better value.

Finance Now quick-loan FAQs

Can I get a Finance Now loan today, or does approval take longer?

Same-day funding may be possible after approval, signing and document checks. Finance Now’s FAQs describe payment within 24 hours after approval and receipt of the required documents, rather than within 24 hours of applying. When comparing quick loans, ask each lender when the money could reach your account, including any checks still outstanding.

How should I compare Finance Now’s interest rate with another lender’s?

Compare personalised offers for the same cash amount and repayment period. Finance Now’s advertised range is 8.25%–29.95% p.a. for applications received through 14 January 2027, with the minimum scheduled to become 8.45% afterwards. Your credit profile, loan amount and security affect your rate. Include establishment fees, monthly charges and required insurance in the comparison; the advertised interest rate does not include all these costs.

Is Finance Now good value for a NZ$1,000 emergency loan?

Its fixed fees deserve particular attention at that amount. Using the published charges, a six-month loan incurs NZ$215 in establishment fees and NZ$15 in monthly service fees: NZ$230 before interest and any other applicable costs. This is a fee calculation, not a repayment quote. A competing loan with a higher interest rate but lower fees could cost less overall; compare the total repayable for NZ$1,000 actually received.

Can I check my Finance Now rate without affecting my credit score?

The reviewed pages do not confirm a soft-check-only quotation process. Finance Now’s privacy policy confirms that it obtains credit-history and credit-score information and shares information with credit-reporting agencies. Before submitting an application just to compare prices, ask whether a rate enquiry will be recorded on your credit file and whether an indicative rate is available without a full application.

Does Finance Now accept borrowers with bad credit or recent defaults?

Finance Now says a recent default to another financial institution makes approval unlikely. Its credit criteria require no recent finance defaults and good credit experience, or a guarantor with that record. The guarantor option should not be read as an exception to the default criteria. If your credit problems are older or settled, ask how those specific entries would be assessed before applying.

Can I qualify if I am self-employed or have recently started a business?

Self-employed applicants can be considered, but the documentation requirements need clarification. The interest-rate FAQ asks for at least one full financial year of self-employment and the latest IRD acknowledgement; the general FAQ only mentions evidence of business income. If your business is newer, confirm whether you meet the trading-history requirement before authorising a credit check.

Can I borrow without security, and would offering my car make the loan cheaper?

Finance Now offers unsecured loans, but says larger amounts generally require security. Its advertised NZ$60,000 maximum should not be treated as an unsecured borrowing limit. Offering a car may reduce your personalised rate, but compare the saving with security-registration and insurance costs. The loan terms require insurance over assets securing the loan, and those assets may be repossessed following default. Optional Payment Protection Insurance is separate from this asset-insurance requirement.

Can I repay the loan within a few weeks without an early repayment charge?

Do not assume early settlement is free. Finance Now accepts extra payments, but its repayment FAQs say paying off the loan early may attract an early termination charge. The contract also allows applicable administration costs. If you only need money briefly, request a cost illustration using your intended settlement date. Compare that figure with short-term borrowing options, including their fees, rather than comparing annual interest rates alone.

Can I pause or reduce repayments if my income drops?

You can request assistance, but a payment pause is not automatic. Finance Now’s hardship process asks for three months of recent bank statements and may require evidence of your changed circumstances. Existing payment obligations continue until an arrangement is agreed. Contact 0800 654 377; free financial mentoring is also available through MoneyTalks on 0800 345 123.

What can I do if I dispute a fee or Finance Now does not resolve my complaint?

Use the complaints process, call 0800 346 669 or email complaints@financenow.co.nz. Finance Now says it will acknowledge complaints within two business days and asks for 20 business days to resolve them. If you remain dissatisfied after its internal process, the Insurance and Financial Services Ombudsman offers free independent dispute resolution on 0800 888 202. You can contact the scheme earlier to discuss the process.
