Review basis: Researched on 15 October 2026 using Instant Finance’s official Cash Loan page, application guide, FAQs, rates and fees, fee schedule current at 1 March 2026, November 2024 sample agreement, privacy policy and complaints procedure. This review covers the standard Cash Loan. Product terms are lender disclosures; suitability assessments and labelled calculations are editorial analysis. No application was submitted or personalised quotation obtained. The sample agreement predates the current fee schedule; default-interest wording and current repayment-protection exclusions require confirmation.

Instant Finance quick loan: costs, eligibility and timing

  • Provider and purpose: Instant Finance Limited is a New Zealand direct lender. Its Cash Loan can cover urgent bills, repairs and other personal expenses.
  • Amounts and terms: Typically $500–$50,000 over 3 months to 7 years, subject to assessment. Repayments can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
  • Interest and APR: Personalised fixed interest of 9.95%–29.95% per annum. The checked pricing pages do not publish a separate fee-inclusive APR; these interest rates exclude fees.
  • Fees: Establishment costs $100 for up to $500 in new borrowing or $220 above that, plus ID verification and $3 per instalment. Security, variation, early-settlement and default charges may apply.
  • Security and insurance: Secured and unsecured lending are available, subject to assessment. Vehicle security requires comprehensive insurance. Confirm other insurance conditions and any repayment-protection cost in your offer.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be at least 18, live in New Zealand and demonstrate affordable repayments. Work-visa holders, beneficiaries, self-employed applicants and people with adverse credit may be considered.
  • Application and timing: Apply directly online or through a branch. Instant Finance aims for a same-day response; funds are usually available on the approval day or within 24 hours afterwards. Neither is an unconditional commitment.
  • Best fit and main limitation: Worth considering for a defined expense when branch assistance matters. Establishment and instalment fees can materially increase the cost of a smaller loan.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on Instant Finance

When comparing Instant Finance, I would ask for two repayment scenarios: the cost of keeping the agreed schedule and the cost of settling on the date you realistically expect to have the money. For an urgent expense, that distinction matters. Upfront fees can make a brief loan expensive, while a longer term can make the weekly payment look easier without making the borrowing cheaper. At LoansFinder, we encourage readers to compare the cash received against the total amount paid back under both scenarios. That helps you judge the offer even if your repayment plans change.

Who qualifies for an Instant Finance quick loan?

You must be at least 18 and living in New Zealand. Citizens and residents can apply; work-visa holders may qualify where repayment finishes within their permitted stay. Approval depends on income, expenses, existing commitments, credit history and any security required.

Prepare photo ID, recent proof of address and three months of bank transactions. Income evidence may include payslips, benefit statements or self-employed accounts. The lender may request vehicle details, insurance documents or other evidence when assessing security. Its application guide explains the checks.

A history of missed payments does not automatically exclude you, but acceptance of applications from different credit backgrounds does not mean approval without credit or affordability checks.

When this quick loan may suit

The Cash Loan may suit someone with an urgent, identifiable expense and enough regular surplus income to repay it. Online and branch channels provide a choice when documents or circumstances need discussion.

Reconsider borrowing if the problem is a recurring gap between income and essential spending. A creditor payment arrangement or help managing existing debt may address that problem more directly. If timing allows, compare personal loan costs and terms, especially before securing a modest cash advance against a valuable asset.

How to apply and receive the money

Application and assessment

Use Instant Finance’s direct application form or contact a branch. Supply your borrowing purpose, financial information and documents. The team assesses affordability and credit history, checks any proposed security and discusses an offer before you sign.

The application includes consent for information checks and sharing with credit-reporting agencies. An application can appear on your credit file; read the privacy terms before authorising it.

Response time versus payment time

A same-day response is an aim, not necessarily a final approval. Instant Finance says approved cash loans are usually paid the same day or within 24 hours. Missing information and security checks can extend the process. Confirm the expected payment date before committing to an urgent purchase.

Questions that can change the borrowing decision

  • How much cash will I receive, and how much will I owe after financed fees and optional services?
  • What is my personalised rate, total repayment and first payment date?
  • How do weekly, fortnightly and monthly schedules compare after interest and instalment fees?
  • Which assets secure the loan, and what insurance must I maintain?
  • What protection products are optional, and what exclusions, waiting periods and cancellation terms apply?
  • How is default interest calculated, and what would full early settlement cost?

Instant Finance advantages and limitations

  • Choice of service: Online applications and branch assistance accommodate different documentation needs.
  • Fixed interest: The agreed interest rate stays fixed for the term, helping with budgeting.
  • Individual assessment: Benefits, self-employment and previous credit problems can be considered.
  • Cost of small advances: The establishment charge can be substantial relative to the cash received.
  • Repeated fees: Each scheduled instalment attracts $3, so repayment frequency affects cost.
  • Security exposure: Assets pledged as security may be repossessed and sold following default; a remaining shortfall may still be owed.

Interest, fees and the total repayment

The advertised annual interest range is 9.95%–29.95%, fixed once agreed. Your circumstances, credit history, security and loan amount influence the offer. Fees added to the balance also attract interest.

Charge Published amount or condition
Establishment $100 for new borrowing up to $500; $220 above $500.
ID verification $2.55 per person face to face; $7.70 remotely.
Administration $3 per scheduled instalment.
Personal-property security registration $8.05 automated or $16.10 manual registration, where applicable.
Land security Listed mortgage or caveat registration: $455; discharge: $447. Third-party charges can vary.
Contract variation $50 where a formal variation applies.
Full early repayment $25; unused interest and administration fees are rebated.

The March 2026 schedule describes its figures as maximum fees, with lower amounts possible in some cases. For loans written after 1 March 2026, it lists $7.50 weekly arrears management once the loan is at least seven days overdue. Other conditional charges include $5 for a reversed payment, $45 default notices and recovery costs.

Why repayment frequency matters

Editorial calculation: Over three years, $3 per instalment produces administration fees of $468 for 156 weekly payments, $234 for 78 fortnightly payments or $108 for 36 monthly payments. These figures compare administration fees only. Ask for complete schedules because interest, payment dates and affordability also matter.

Official $10,000 repayment example

Instant Finance’s published example uses $10,000 over three years at 29.95% annual interest, repaid through 156 weekly instalments of $102.54. Total repayment is $15,996.24: the original $10,000, $5,300.54 interest and $695.70 fees. Those fees comprise $220 establishment, $7.70 ID verification and $468 administration.

The repayment and component totals reconcile. No insurance premium, security-registration charge or default cost is included in that breakdown. It is an example, not a personalised offer.

Insurance and default-interest qualifications

Comprehensive insurance is required where a vehicle secures the loan. Instant Finance’s FAQs recommend payment protection insurance and allow a choice of insurer. Confirm whether your offer includes insurance or an optional repayment waiver, its separate price and any interest charged on that cost. Current protection-policy exclusions were not verified; obtain the wording and check medical conditions, employment eligibility, waiting periods and benefit limits.

The published default wording states 5% per annum for personal loans written after 1 March 2026, while older loans use the normal rate plus 10 percentage points. The page also retains a 39.95% maximum statement. It does not clearly explain how the newer 5% interacts with ordinary interest. Obtain the applicable calculation in writing before signing.

Is Instant Finance worth comparing?

Instant Finance’s strongest feature is access to direct assessment online or in a branch when an expense is urgent. Its main limitation is the combined effect of personalised interest, upfront charges and per-instalment fees. Compare the total repayment for the same cash received and repayment period, including insurance and security costs, against other quick loan options.

Instant Finance quick loan FAQs

Can Instant Finance pay me today, or does “same-day” only mean a response?

Instant Finance aims for a same-day response and says approved cash loans are usually paid the same day or within 24 hours. These are different stages: an initial response may involve requesting documents rather than approving the loan. When comparing lenders, check whether their advertised timeframe starts at application or after approval. Ask Instant Finance whether any identity, income or security checks remain outstanding before relying on payment today.

Is Instant Finance worth considering if another lender has declined me?

Potentially. Instant Finance says previous defaults do not automatically exclude an applicant; it considers current circumstances alongside credit history. That does not establish a higher approval rate than another lender or access to the lowest advertised interest rate. Its Cash Loan page also says an application appears on your credit file and may affect your score. Ask what eligibility and pricing information is available before authorising a formal application.

Can I qualify without a salary, and what income evidence matters?

Instant Finance considers benefit income and self-employed earnings, so a conventional salary is not essential. Self-employed applicants may provide annual accounts or bank statements; benefit recipients may need a current WINZ letter and transaction history. The assessment examines whether income supports repayments after expenses. Prepare evidence of income consistency and existing commitments, particularly where recent deposits fluctuate or include one-off receipts.

How does a work visa affect the amount and repayment term I could receive?

Work-visa holders may apply, subject to assessment and inspection of their passport and visa. The loan term must fit within the remaining visa period, so the advertised maximum term may not be available. For the same amount and rate, a shorter term generally requires larger instalments. Ask for a quotation based on your current visa expiry date; do not build affordability around an assumed renewal.

Could providing security make my quick loan cheaper overall?

Security can influence Instant Finance’s rate and approved amount, but a lower interest rate alone does not establish a cheaper loan. A secured offer may add registration costs, and a vehicle used as security requires comprehensive insurance. Compare secured and unsecured quotations, if both are available, using the same cash amount and repayment period. Include any additional insurance expense and consider that pledged assets may be repossessed and sold following default.

If I only need $500, how does Fast $500 compare with the standard Cash Loan?

The separate Fast $500 promotion advertises 0% interest, a $95 establishment fee and no administration fee, giving a scheduled total repayment of $595 over up to 92 days. A standard $500 Cash Loan has different interest and fees. Fast $500 is subject to assessment and promotional availability; its published terms list 39.95% annual default interest on overdue payments. Confirm which product your quotation covers, especially if you are offered a secured alternative.

Which fees could make Instant Finance more expensive than another quick lender?

The standard loan’s establishment fee is $100 for up to $500 in new borrowing and $220 above that. For a single applicant borrowing $1,000 remotely, establishment and ID verification total $227.70 before interest, instalment fees or other applicable costs. If financed, those upfront charges also attract interest.

The $3 administration fee applies per instalment. Calculated over 52 weekly, 26 fortnightly or 12 monthly payments, that is $156, $78 or $36 respectively. These are fee-only comparisons; request complete repayment schedules when comparing other quick loan options.

Will repaying early remove most of the borrowing cost?

Not necessarily. Instant Finance allows full early repayment with a $25 settlement fee and rebates unused interest and administration fees. Its published rebate wording does not promise a refund of establishment charges. If you expect to clear the loan shortly after payday or another incoming payment, request a settlement illustration for that date. Compare the cost over your expected borrowing period, rather than relying only on the full-term quotation.

What support is available if I cannot keep up with repayments?

Contact your branch or call 0800 760 000 to discuss repayment support. If a revised schedule is offered, ask for the new total repayment: smaller instalments over a longer period can increase overall cost. For unresolved service or lending concerns, follow Instant Finance’s formal complaints process. Complaints that remain unresolved can be referred to the Insurance & Financial Services Ombudsman Scheme, a free independent service, on 0800 888 202.
