Review basis: Researched on 15 October 2026 using Loansmart’s official same-day loan information, rates and fees, broker disclosure, application form, FAQs, application process, privacy policy and insurance information. The pricing pages inspected did not state an effective date. Published timing guidance and interest/APR terminology require clarification, as explained below. No personalised quotation or lender-specific agreement was reviewed, and funding speed was not tested. Suitability conclusions are editorial assessments of published information.

Loansmart quick loans: summary

  • Provider and purpose: Loansmart Limited is a New Zealand loan broker arranging personal loans through a panel of lenders. Its quick-loan service focuses on arranging funds promptly for expenses or purchases.
  • Amounts and terms: Advertised limits are up to NZ$75,000 unsecured or NZ$150,000 secured, over 6–84 months. Your approved amount, term and security requirements depend on assessment.
  • Interest and APR: Advertised annual interest ranges from 9.95% to 32.50%, with fees additional. Loansmart publishes a 19.33% APR for its specific $10,000 example; this is not a personalised rate.
  • Fees: Applying is free. An arranged loan may attract a Loansmart fee of up to 5% of the loan amount plus $245, capped at $995 unsecured or $1,995 secured, quoted excluding GST. Separate lender charges may apply.
  • Insurance: Credit repayment insurance is optional. Loansmart says property used as security must be insured; confirm any other asset-insurance conditions with the lender.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must live in New Zealand and pass affordability, identity and credit checks. Expect to provide photo ID and usually three months of bank statements. Individual lender criteria apply.
  • Application and speed: Apply online or by phone. Loansmart advertises possible approval in 1–2 hours and same-day payment, subject to checks, complete documentation, signing and bank processing.
  • Best fit and main limitation: Potentially useful for borrowers wanting help comparing several lenders quickly. Broker and lender fees can make a small urgent loan expensive, and same-day access is conditional.
Founder perspective

Alexander Balanoff on Loansmart

When comparing a Loansmart offer, start with the cash you actually receive. Fees added to the loan increase your debt without increasing the money available for your expense. Then compare offers over the same repayment period, including broker fees, lender charges and interest on financed costs. If you expect to repay early, request a settlement illustration for that date. At LoansFinder, we focus on these differences because the useful question is how much it will cost to solve your immediate need—and how long that cost will stay in your budget.

Loansmart quick-loan eligibility and documents

The application form requires you to live in New Zealand and asks about income, housing, residency status and expected changes to income or expenses. Non-citizens are asked for residency or visa information; this does not establish eligibility with every panel lender.

  • Identity: Valid photo ID, such as a driver licence or passport, plus contact and address details.
  • Affordability: Evidence of income and spending, usually the latest three months of bank statements supplied through an authorised online link.
  • Credit assessment: Your credit history and existing commitments are considered. Previous defaults do not automatically rule out an application, but approval remains conditional.
  • Application declarations: The form includes declarations about outstanding fines, criminal records and undischarged bankruptcy. Ask the consultant before submitting if you cannot accurately make these declarations.

A universal minimum age or income threshold was not established from the quick-loan material inspected. Confirm these requirements and any visa restrictions before applying.

Who should consider a Loansmart quick loan?

This service may suit someone facing a one-off expense who can afford ongoing repayments and wants a consultant to compare offers from several lenders. Its strongest practical feature is help coordinating the application and documentation.

For a small bill or a gap lasting only until payday, a loan with establishment costs and a minimum six-month term may be disproportionate. Compare a payment arrangement with the bill provider, your bank’s options and other personal loan costs. If borrowing would cover a recurring budget shortfall, consider debt-management support before adding another repayment.

How Loansmart arranges a quick loan

Application and assessment

Apply through Loansmart’s website or call 0800 255 155. A consultant requests supporting documents, discusses your needs and assesses available options. If an offer is approved, review the lender’s disclosure and agreement before signing electronically.

Loansmart’s privacy policy permits information sharing with lenders, insurers and service providers. The application authorises credit enquiries. Ask which lenders will receive your details and how credit searches will be recorded.

Approval time and same-day payment

The advertised 1–2-hour approval period depends on satisfactory checks and complete information. Approval and money becoming available are separate stages.

The same-day page asks applicants to apply before 2pm on a business day, while the process page refers to having everything required before 3pm. These describe different stages, not a single assured payment deadline. Confirm the applicable cut-off with your consultant; bank processing can move receipt to the next day.

Questions to ask before accepting an offer

  • Who is the actual lender, how much cash will I receive, and what is the total amount repayable?
  • What are the broker and lender fees, including any applicable GST, and which charges will be financed?
  • What are the repayment dates, ongoing fees, missed-payment charges and early-settlement costs?
  • Is security required, what asset is at risk, and which insurance is compulsory or optional?
  • What remains outstanding before payment, and when should my bank make the funds available?

Loansmart quick-loan advantages and limitations

  • Panel access: One application provides access to several lenders, although Loansmart’s disclosure limits its advice to selected providers.
  • Assisted online process: A consultant helps with documentation and electronic signing, with possible same-day funding.
  • Additional cost: The broker fee can sit alongside lender charges. Its fixed component has a greater proportional impact on smaller advances.
  • Limits to comparison: Loansmart may receive lender, insurance or referral commissions. Its recommendation is not a comparison of the entire market.
  • Security risk: Offering a vehicle or property as security exposes that asset to enforcement if repayments are not maintained.

Loansmart interest, fees and total repayment

Loansmart’s sitewide disclosure describes 9.95%–32.50% as annual interest rates. Its FAQ also labels that range “APR”, creating an inconsistency. Do not assume the advertised interest range includes fees: request the selected lender’s complete cost breakdown and any personalised APR calculation.

The published broker fee is up to 5% of the loan amount plus $245, capped at $995 for unsecured borrowing or $1,995 for secured borrowing, excluding GST. Confirm the final tax-inclusive amount where applicable. The fee can be paid separately before funding or added to the loan; financing charges increases the balance on which interest may accrue.

The chosen lender’s establishment, account, default and early-repayment charges must also be checked. The $215 lender fee in the example below is not a universal charge across Loansmart’s panel.

Loansmart’s published $10,000 example

Loansmart publishes the following example across its website, including its personal-loan page:

  • Loan amount: $10,000 over 60 months.
  • Annual interest: 14.95%.
  • Fees: $215 lender establishment fee and $745 Loansmart fee.
  • Repayment: $59.91 weekly.
  • Total payable: $15,576.98.
  • Published APR: 19.33%.

Editorial calculation: The stated total is $5,576.98 above the $10,000 advance. Multiplying the rounded weekly payment by 260 gives $15,576.60, which is 38 cents below the published total; request the exact payment schedule. The example does not specify an insurance premium or clarify GST treatment, so confirm these before using it as a budget estimate.

Optional insurance and exclusions

CreditCare insurance is optional, with cover depending on the selected policy. Published exclusions include specified pre-existing conditions and arrears arising before an insured event. Waiting periods and claim limits apply. Obtain the policy wording and premium, including the interest cost if financed. Property insurance required for a property-secured loan is a separate expense.

Is Loansmart a useful quick-loan option?

Loansmart’s main strength is coordinating lender options and paperwork when time matters. Its main limitation is the combined broker-and-lender cost, particularly for a small advance. Compare other quick-loan options using the same cash amount and repayment term, then weigh the total payable against a funding date the provider can substantiate. A fast decision has limited value if the repayments leave insufficient room for essentials.

Loansmart quick-loan FAQs

Does Loansmart compare the whole market or lend the money itself?

Loansmart is a broker working with selected lenders. Its disclosure lists a lender panel and separate referral partners, so its recommendation does not cover every New Zealand provider. It may receive commissions as well as charge a broker fee. Ask which lenders were considered for your application and why the recommended offer was preferred, particularly if another option has a lower total repayment.

Could Loansmart cost more than applying directly to a lender?

It could, depending on the offers available to you. Loansmart may charge up to 5% of the loan amount plus $245, capped at $995 unsecured or $1,995 secured, excluding GST. Separate lender charges may apply. As an illustration, a $2,000 loan charged at 5% plus $245 would carry a $345 broker fee before any applicable GST, lender charges or interest. Compare quotations for the same cash received and repayment term, including interest on financed fees. A lower advertised interest rate alone does not establish which offer costs less.

Does approval in 1–2 hours mean the money will arrive that quickly?

No. Loansmart advertises possible approval in 1–2 hours, subject to checks and the information it needs. Approval, signing and payment are separate stages. Its same-day page asks applicants to apply before 2pm on a business day, but documents, outstanding conditions and bank processing still affect receipt. If a bill has a firm deadline, ask whether the lender has authorised payment and when the funds are expected to become available.

Is Loansmart suitable if I only need money until my next payday?

Loansmart advertises terms of 6–84 months, so its quick-loan service is structured as personal lending rather than a next-payday advance. If you expect to repay within weeks, compare the cost at that intended repayment date, including broker fees and any lender settlement charges. A loan funded quickly can still be expensive to use briefly when setup costs remain payable.

Can Loansmart help after a bank declines me, and will there be another credit check?

A bank decline does not automatically exclude you. Loansmart says it may assist borrowers with previous defaults where current payments are up to date and bank statements show satisfactory conduct. It may also propose security. Credit checks still apply; access to several lenders does not mean approval without assessment. Before proceeding, ask which providers will receive your application and how many credit enquiries may be recorded.

Can I remove repayment insurance to compare the loan more accurately?

Loansmart says its credit repayment insurance is optional. Request quotations with and without it, keeping the cash advance and term unchanged. If the premium is financed, compare the resulting interest as well as the premium itself. Check exclusions and waiting periods before paying for cover. Insurance required over an asset used as security is separate: Loansmart specifically requires property offered as security to be insured.

If I find a better offer, can I cancel without losing the broker fee?

The funding stage matters. Loansmart’s disclosure says no fee is payable if you cancel before funds are advanced. It states that its broker fee is non-refundable after funding, including cancellation within the loan agreement’s cancellation period. Compare competing offers before authorising payment, and obtain written confirmation of any cancellation amount and applicable rights.

What should I compare if I plan to repay the loan early?

Ask the actual lender for an illustrative settlement amount at your expected repayment date, including any early-repayment charges. Then add repayments already made and fees paid separately to compare the full cost. The scheduled total over several years is less useful when you intend to settle in a few months. Confirm how extra payments are applied and whether any fees or insurance premiums would be refundable.

Who handles repayment problems or complaints: Loansmart or the lender?

Contact the lender named in your agreement about payment difficulties and tell your Loansmart consultant. Loansmart can be reached on 0800 255 155, weekdays 8am–5pm, or at enquiries@loansmart.co.nz.

For concerns about Loansmart’s advice, fee or application handling, use its complaints process. Its disclosure identifies Financial Services Complaints Limited, on 0800 347 257, for unresolved complaints. A complaint about the lender’s conduct should follow that lender’s procedure and nominated dispute-resolution scheme.
